Berkeley's Time Has Come...

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In the last few weeks, a movement has been sweeping through college campuses across the nation leading students to kneel before our Father God and cry out for our generation, our friends, and our campuses. College after college, there are stories of Christian students experiencing God anew through prayer and testimonies of God restoring the fire in their hearts for His holiness and for His glory. At Asbury College, students worshipped for three straight days after they hosted a 24 hour prayer room! This movement is definitely not from organizations or from individuals – it is only from God. Revival is happening, and as a body of Christ at Cal we want to follow God in His movement.

We invite you to join us again this semester to seek God's face in prayer and to intercede for our friends, our loved ones and our campus. We are inviting the entire body of Christ to come and pray together in unity in a 48-hour prayer room graciously provided for us by First Presbyterian Church.

This Cal 48hr Prayer Furnace is not an isolated event but the end of a 40 day college prayer room chain started on January 20th.  We are going to be the last college prayer room from forty continuous days of prayer starting with Azusa Pacific to Asbury College to UCLA, etc. Imagine the accumulation of 700 hours of prayers from thousands of brothers and sisters in Christ on 30 campuses across the nation over the last few weeks! You can read the awesome things God is doing in these places here: http://www.40daysofprayer.blogspot.com/

The Prayer Furnace is also the advance prayer cover for a coordinated campus-wide evangelistic outreach sponsored by the fellowships in Unity in Christ that will happen in the weeks of March and April. The outreach is collectively named "Taste and See," and powerful, united prayer is essential to its effectiveness.

Therefore, our purpose is two fold: we are here to seek the heart of God to first be revived, and then receive empowerment to proclaim the Kingdom of God to our campus. Here are the details:
  • Furnace Days: 6PM, Sunday Feb 26 – 6 PM, Tuesday, Feb 28
  • Furnace Kickoff Gathering: Sunday, Feb 26, First Pres Church. (Time: TBA)
  • Location: 2407 Dana Street, College Lounge in the Westminster Hall of First Pres Church.  The entrance is on Dana.  Note: this is NOT Westminster House on College and Bancroft where last semester’s prayer furnaces occurred.

I felt like the 48-hour prayer furnace was great.  I was going through
some things at that time and even though I had a midterm coming up, for
some reason I was willing to take out time to go to one, and it really
helped me see what God wanted me to do regarding some issues in my life in
which I was really confused and did not know what to do.  Also, what was
discussed there seemed to help direct me in the trials which I faced later
that week.  Furthermore, I felt like there was a direct bond between those
of us who were there.  It was great!
